The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (the Authority) is a non-corporate Commonwealth entity and operates as a statutory agency under the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Act 1975 (Marine Park Act). The Authority sits within the Australian Government Agriculture, Water and Environment Portfolio and reports to the Minister for the Environment. The Authority’s objective is to provide for the long-term protection, ecologically sustainable use, understanding and enjoyment of the Great Barrier Reef for all Australians and the international community through the care and development of the Marine Park.
Your new role
We are seeking an experienced manager to lead a small team in managing response to maritime and other incidents within the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area - this could include oil spills and pollution, vessel groundings/sinking and/or extreme weather events. This position is responsible for the development and implementation of relevant guidelines, policies and procedures and often works with several other government agencies to ensure a continual focus on effective delivery.
What you’ll need to succeed
You will have relevant training and experience in Incident Management coupled with the leadership skills in delivering relevant training programs. Your maritime knowledge and pre-determined qualifications in either environmental science and/or public administration coupled with your effective communication skills will be of significant value.
